Primary Schools

For pupils aged nine and above, we work in partnership with Primary Schools to offer tailor made programs to deliver the requirements of physical education with regard to key stage 2 and P.H.S.E. syllabuses to suit your schools needs.
The emphasis is to introduce pupils to adventure sports in a safe and exciting environment, encourage personal skill and social development.
For many young people, outdoor education is a completely new experience. Our "outdoor classroom" is very different, our walls, if we have any, may be higher, there might not be a floor only the surface of the canal, and we learn through what we see and feel, outdoor education is experiential learning.

The Jubilee looks at both improving motor skills of the individual and their social skills, with their peers, whilst taking part in an inclusive program.
The program is run on a sessional basis, where pupils build upon skills they have previously learnt, constantly modifying and improving, putting these skills into practice. In both Paddle and Mountain sports there are elements of theory which help pupils to gain a better understanding of the sport and look to improve personal performance. Theory is put over in an understandable and informal way relating to how we prepare for exercise, the equipment we use, background of the sport and introducing "better practice." E.g. How to lift a canoe effectively with out risk of injury, or belay a peer safely whilst rock climbing.

Our Primary Schools program can be delivered in two different formats

Multi activity
Covers a range of activities climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking and team building. Pupils gain a wide range of experiences, allowing them a start in the sport which they can build on.

Skill specific
The program covers one sport, developing and refining skills, offering the chance to gain a nationally recognised or an in house award from the Jubilee. There is a great sense of achievement working towards and completing an award, pupils not only become competent in a sport but also their confidence improves.

Both format sessions are delivered in a modular form and generally covered over half a school term (depending on group and time available). All sessions follow a prescriptive program to ensure high standards of safety, instruction, delivery and record keeping.

Secondary Schools

The Jubilee has developed a variety of Outdoor Education Programs to follow and deliver units of both key stages 3 and 4 with regard to the National curriculum and GCSE.

Outdoor Education can be of huge benefit to young people by involving them in inclusive, adventurous, dynamic, and challenging activity. Alongside the development of skill, outdoor education helps to build self confidence, improve personal performance and improve team work amongst Young People. All sessions cover areas of health and fitness and encourage "Good Practice," i.e. choosing correct equipment, preparing for exercise and using our bodies effectively to minimising injury.
The education based programs take place at the centre during term time, these are delivered in a modular form, generally over one school term. The school sessions at the Jubilee follow a prescriptive syllabus, attendance, skill development and information covered during the sessions are recorded.
The Jubilee is committed to maintaining high standards in its course content and delivery.

Skill Specific
Traditionally thisis the most popular course delivered at the centre. Choosing between either paddle sports or climbing, the sessions are run to enable students to gain either a nationally recognised qualification or a Jubilee in-house award. The awards include aspects of theory and this is introduced in an informal style. The information covered is related to directly to the sport or activities such as equipment design its usage; background of the sport and the skills and techniques to make proficiency attainable.
A complete program can generally be covered during a school term.

Multi Activity Program
Our multi activity program is a designed to give young people the ability to acquire a broad range of skills in a number of activities. Depending on the time schools have available the Jubilee tailors its program to suit the need of your pupils and school. The activities that we deliver are up to the school to choose . As with the skill specific program all multi activity sessions are recorded to ensure high standards and quality.

For those with a talent and/or showing a serious interest in sport, these sessions offer young people coached sessions for personal development.
The training will have set personal goals, with achievable aims and recorded attainment. Our intention is to foster a lifelong involvement in sport through enjoyable and wide ranging activities.

Residential Experiences

Specialising in residential work, the Jubilee has worked with young people in residential settings for over 25 years. Taking young people into unfamiliar and wilder settings, this can be for many their first introduction to the great outdoors.
The benefits of working and living together as well as the challenge of outdoor activities can often be the catalyst for other issues.
The intense nature of a residential program can produce surprises, often bringing results that would take months of conventional once or twice a week meetings with young people.
Residential trips can be arranged to suit school or group needs and requirements, ranging from two to ten days or more, you can choose the type of accommodation, catering facilities and activities. The Jubilee Centres A.A.L.A license is comprehensive and allows us to offer a very adventurous program. Safety and quality of instruction are our priorities
The majority of our residential program takes place in North Wales in the Snowdonia National Park. On a typical residential program the group is picked up in on Monday morning and driven to North Wales by minibus. The activities begin with the group abseiling off a mountain crag that afternoon. The program is action packed with adventure sports during the day with the option of team games or night activities taking place after dinner. On Friday we return to London with the aim to have group back for late afternoon.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and its unique structure is gaining in popularity yearly. It's an internationally recognised award, which when completed says a lot about a person, their attitude and abilities.

This award scheme is for young people between 14-25 years old.
Running the award in your school or youth group will provide many benefits.

It will help to develop:-
Self belief, Self confidence, A sense of identity, Communication skills,
A sense of responsibility, An awareness of potential, New talents and abilities,
An understanding of strengths and weaknesses, Build new relationships,
Ability to plan and use time effectively, Ability to lead and work as part of a team.

There are three levels of the award, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Each level has four sections, Skill, Service, Physical Recreation and Expedition, with an additional Residential at Gold level.
As the participant works through the award program each level demands more time and commitment, as well as a greater level of responsibility.

The most difficult section of the award to complete is the expedition section, due to the level of qualified and experienced staff required to allow the outdoor experience to be fun and safe. Being a Licensed Outdoor Education Centre we can train and assess young people through this section of the award.

Taking part in the award with The Jubilee Waterside Centre could not be easier. We can put you in contact with your borough co-ordinator who will be able to offer you support and advice as well as ordering your groups Entrance Packs.
We have almost continuous training and assessment for the expedition section of the award, at all levels, between March and October, with a staff team that can instruct, assist and assess expeditions by foot, bike, canoe or kayak.

BEL (Basic Expedition Leadership)

For volunteers ands teachers interested in gaining an award to run Bronze expedition training and assessment we offer the Basic Expedition Leaders Award.
This covers all aspects of expedition work including instruction, safety, training and assessment.
The course lasts 90 hours, and can be arranged over weekends or midweek days to fit in with your availability.
